Yarn - twisted shorn of hair strands of different animals for the production of knitted garments and linens. The appearance of the first yarn is dated Neolithic. At the end of XV century spinning wheel was invented, whose structure-foundation remains the same to this day. Yarn on the old manual techniques can be obtained by stretching and twisting wool yarn from tow wound on the upper end of the spinning wheels via a spindle.

Spindle - a wooden rod with a length of 30 cm impaled on the end of his clay or stone spindle. It rotates clockwise between thumb and index finger of the right hand (left hand at the same time controls the supply of raw materials), its weight pulls the fiber tow and twists them into a thread. Spindle works as a flywheel, and gives the rotation uniformity.

Modern machine technology of yarn is almost completely automated.
