 Velvet came to Europe from Arab countries and became popular in the 16th century as a luxury holiday and material for court orders. He represents chistoshelkovuyu or wool blend fabric on the front side of which is solid or etched on the drawing pile.

Peter I organized the first factory in Russia, which, among other expensive fabrics (satin, silk) produced and velvet. Even today velvet fabric is widely used for sewing festive women's clothes: dresses, blouses, trousers.
