Purpose is to protect their hands from the elements - wind or cold. But there are also purely decorative species that are part of an evening dress and some variants of uniforms.

The first mention of gloves in the literature can be found in Chapter 4 of the "Book of Ruth" of the Old Testament. Today, this article of clothing is very prevalent and difficult to find someone at least once not to wear gloves.
